SEATTLE — The advertisement inevitably raised some eyebrows.

Heck, it was intended to.

“I wanted you to look at Jesus smoking a blunt, eating a hamburger and say, ‘hey, I’m going to tell my friend,” said John Schmidt.

Schmidt is the owner of Seattle-based Lunchbox Laboratory restaurants and behind a much talked about email-blast.

The ad, emailed out to 13,000 Lunchbox Laboratory deals subscribers, features a picture the Lord and Savior in a not-so-classical pose with a burger in one hand and a marijuana joint in the other. Text springing from Jesus’ mouth reads, “When I Get Back, All I Want is the Burger of the Gods.”Above him is Easter’s date with the number 4.20 highlighted in green.

The advertisement, originally seen by around 1,000 of the 13,000 subscribers, is meant to highlight the sale date for the scrumptious Burger of the Gods.
An advertisement emailed out to all of Lunchbox Laboratory’s deals subscribers is garnering media attention.

Satanic Temple launches campaign to ‘protect’ children and permit them to pray to Satan

“We want children to know that they are permitted to pray to Satan in school.”

Satanists want in on the right to pray in school – as long as they can pray to the devil.

The Satanic Temple states that they are fighting for the rights of public school students to learn in a cruelty-free classroom.

In a press release, the NYC organisation declares May 15 as “Protect Children Day,” and describes a goal of ending physical and mental abuse in public schools.

After students register on Satanic Temple’s ProtectChildrenProject.com, “the Temple will then notify their respective school boards that their deeply held beliefs oppose physical and psychological abuses, including the use of corporal punishment, physical restraints, and isolation rooms as forms of punishment,” a press release states.

The Protect Children Project’s website encourages children to submit their name, email address, and the name of their school in order to receive help from the Temple. The organization maintains that submission does not make one a Temple member, and is open to all denominations.

A Seminole County woman who survived a bear attack over the weekend told WESH-Channel 2 that while in the jaws of a bear, she prayed and heard Jesus speak to her, saying “It’s O.K. you will be at peace.”

Terri Frana, 44, was attacked in the garage of her home near Lake Mary and suffered bite marks to the head, arm and leg and claw marks to her back, according to her husband, Frank Frana, 54.

She told WESH that the bear “started pulling me toward the woods. … I just thought, ‘God, please, this can’t be the end. It can’t end like this. ‘ I literally heard Jesus say to me, ‘It’s O.K., you will be at peace with us.’

“I replied, ‘Please, my kids need me. Then the bear released my head. She let go of my head, and I knew I had to get up off that ground and get away. Otherwise, I was not going to make it.”

Wildlife officials said Sunday night that they shot an aggressive bear and put down others in the area of the attack, although, it was not clear whether any was involved in the attack on Frana.

GRIFFITH | What appears to be a tear-stained cheek on a statue of Mary on the grounds of St. Mary Catholic Church is moving some people to tears as others caution against a rush to judgment.

Among the skeptics is the church pastor, the Rev. Theodore Mens.

“There must be a natural explanation — the cold, the melting of the snow,” he said. “Whenever we see something, we always look for a natural reason first.”

The white statue, about 4 feet tall, depicts Mary, the mother of Jesus Christ. Surrounded by tulips waiting to bloom, it stands in what parishioners call the “sunken garden” along Broad Street and is the site of the annual May crowning.

Mens said the statue has been there for at least as long as the 21 years he has been at St. Mary Church.

Majdolin Haddad, religious education secretary at St. Mary, said her daughter Reta, an aide in the fourth-grade Monday night class, told her about the tear.

Students in the class had left the church after confession, paused at the statue to pray and noticed a droplet of water clinging to the chin of Mary’s face, appearing to originate from the right eye.

A photo snapped Tuesday morning shows the droplet intact. It was gone by early afternoon.

“I just got back from Griffith, Indiana. I picked up a region GLP’er, proud_momma, to go with me, to be a witness. Yes, it is true. There is no doubt that moisture has come out of the right eye, and dribbled down the right cheek of the statue. Proud_momma had a phone and took pictures.She is going to a friends house later, to use their wireless so she can post a pic. I do not have wireless, and she has no internet.
We both checked the statue out real good, looking for various water marks, to see if by chance they came from the top or side of the head, instead of the eye. I don’t want to jump the gun, and say this is miraculous, but I stand by my findings of the right eye being the source of the moisture that dribbled down the cheek.There is no doubt about it.There are no other water track marks visible that could be the source.”

When the visions of the Passion were concluded, Jesus fell on his face like one at the point of death; the angels disappeared, and the bloody sweat became more copious, so that I saw it had soaked his garment. Entire darkness reigned in the cavern, when I beheld an angel descend to Jesus. This angel was of higher stature than any whom I had before beheld, and his form was also more distinct and more resembling that of a man. He was clothed like a priest in a long floating garment, and bore before him, in his hands, a small vase, in shape resembling the chalice used at the Last Supper. At the top of this chalice, there was a small oval body, about the size of a bean, and which diffused a reddish light. The angel, without touching the earth with his feet, stretched forth his right hand to Jesus, who arose, when he placed the mysterious food in his mouth, and gave him to drink from the luminous chalice. Then he disappeared.

    Jesus having freely accepted the chalice of his sufferings, and received new strength, remained some minutes longer in the grotto, absorbed in calm meditation, and returning thanks to his Heavenly Father. He was still in deep affliction of spirit, but supernaturally comforted to such a degree as to be able to go to his disciples without tottering as he walked, or bending beneath the weight of his sufferings. His countenance was still pale and altered, but his step was firm and determined. He had wiped his face with a linen cloth, and rearranged his hair, which hung about his shoulders, matted together and damp with blood.

    When Jesus came to his disciples, they were lying, as before, against the wall of the terrace, asleep, and with their heads covered. Our Lord told them that then was not the time for sleep, but that they should arise and pray: ‘Behold the hour is at hand, and the Son of Man shall be betrayed into the hands of sinners,’ he said: ‘Arise, let us go, behold he is at hand that will betray me. It were better for him, if that man had not been born.’ The Apostles arose in much alarm, and looked round with anxiety. When they had somewhat recovered themselves, Peter said warmly: ‘Lord, I will call the others, that so we may defend thee.’ But Jesus pointed out to them at some distance in the valley, on the other side of the Brook of Cedron, a band of armed men, who were advancing with torches, and he said that one of their number had betrayed him. He spoke calmly, exhorted them to console his Mother, and said: ‘Let us go to meet them—I shall deliver myself up without resistance into the hands of my enemies.’ He then left the Garden of Olives with the three Apostles, and went to meet the archers on the road which led from that garden to Gethsemani.

    When the Blessed Virgin, under the care of Magdalen and Salome, recovered her senses, some disciples, who had seen the soldiers approaching, conducted her back to the house of Mary, the mother of Mark. The archers took a shorter road than that which Jesus followed when he left the supper-room.

    The grotto in which Jesus had this day prayed was not the one where he usually prayed on Mount Olivet. He commonly went to a cabin at a greater distance off, where, one day, after having cursed the barren fig-tree, he had prayed in great affliction of spirit, with his arms stretched out, and leaning against a rock.

    The traces of his body and hands remained impressed on the stone, and were honoured later, but it was not known on what occasion the miracle had taken place. I have several times seen similar impressions left upon the stone, either by the Prophets of the Old Testament, or by Jesus, Mary, or some of the Apostles, and I have also seen those made by the body of St. Catherine on Mount Sinai. These impressions do not seem deep, but resemble what would be made upon a thick piece of dough, if a person leaned his hand upon it.

Madrid (AFP) – Curators were forced to remove a precious cup from display in a church in Spain when crowds swarmed there after historians claimed it was the Holy Grail, staff said.

Visitors flocked to the San Isidro basilica in the northwestern city of Leon after two historians published a book saying the ancient goblet was the mythical chalice from which Christ sipped at the Last Supper.

The director of the basilica’s museum, Raquel Jaen, said the cup was taken off display on Friday while curators look for an exhibition space large enough to accommodate the crowds.

“It was in a very small room where it was not possible to admire it to the full,” she told AFP.

Made of agate, gold and onyx and encrusted with precious stones, the object in Leon is formed by two goblets joined together, with one turned up, the other down.

It has been known until now as the goblet of the Infanta Dona Urraca, daughter of Fernando I, King of Leon from 1037 to 1065.

The two historians — Leon University medieval history lecturer Margarita Torres and art historian Jose Manuel Ortega del Rio — identified it as the grail in their book “Kings of the Grail”, published last week.

They said two Egyptian parchments they found in 2011 at Cairo’s University of Al-Azhar set them on a three-year investigation.

Their studies led them to identify the upper part of the princess’s goblet, made of agate and missing a fragment as described in the parchments, as the grail — one of the most prized relics in Christianity.

It was offered to Fernando, a powerful Christian Spanish king, as a peace offering by the emir of a kingdom in the Muslim part of Spain at the time, Torres said.

In Europe alone there are 200 supposed Holy Grails, the Spanish researchers admitted. They attempted to debunk the authenticity of some of the better known candidates in their book.

A 1,300-year-old mummy found in Sudan was hiding an angelic secret, which has now been revealed by CT scans done by researchers at the British Museum, reportsThe Telegraph.

The naturally-preserved remains of a Sudanese woman were excavated in 2005, but new investigations have revealed a tattoo located on her inner thigh which symbolizes the Archangel Michael, according to Live Science.

“This is the first example of a tattoo on a Sudanese mummy from the medieval period,” Daniel Antoine, the curator of physical anthropology at the British Museum, told The Telegraph. “And the tattoo itself is remarkable because it’s actually a monogram, which is the letters for the word ‘Michael’ in Greek compressed into a symbol.”

“St. Michael was the patron saint of medieval Sudan,” Antoine explained. “We have found other examples of the monogram, but never in the form of a tattoo. We have engravings, and graffiti on some of the medieval churches, from that part of the Nile Valley. So this is truly a unique and remarkable find.”

The woman is believed to have been between 20 and 35 years of age when she died, and was buried simply, wrapped in linen and woolen cloth. The hot, dry climate naturally preserved her body.

The letters on her inner thigh spell out M-I-X-A-H-A, which is “Michael” in ancient Greek. Researchers say that she probably died around AD 700 and lived in a Christian community on the banks of the Nile River.

Back in November, a friend in Chicago shared a picture taken at the Adoration Chapel of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Glenview, Illinois. I posted the story here, which I then updated when the same friend shared another picture taken on a different day, using a different camera, by a different person.

Then, about a week ago, I received an e-mail from Lori, a “cradle Catholic” and parishioner at OLPH, who wanted to share her own experience, and a third photograph taken at the same parish. After a bit of e-mail correspondence and some phone tag, Lori and I managed to speak on the phone today, and I asked her a lot of questions about the picture that she took and the story behind it.

Lori said that she’s been through a lot of strife in her life, including a battle with a rare form of cancer, but that her faith and deep belief in Jesus Christ has always helped her through dark times. In particular, Lori seems to know something about the reality of spiritual warfare, because at times she has the ability to perceive the unseen or unnoticed — the spiritual. She considers this perception a gift, the purpose of which she is still hoping that God will reveal to her.

Lori believes that the picture shows her guardian angel. She believes this because, simply, she asked her guardian angel to show herself, “next to Jesus”:
