Lipa’s Miraculous Rose Petals

THE PHENOMENA OF LIPA

The news that an archbishop in the Philippines has fully approved apparitions that occurred at Lipa near Manila during the 1940s immediately brought forth a plethora of alleged wonders.

First and most immediate, a pilgrim image of Our Lady, Mary Mediatrix of All Grace, in Caloocan City (Metro Manila), began oozing oil profusely and continuously on September 14, 2015, two days after the historic official Church approval of the apparitions by Archbishop Ramon C. Arguelles.

“Mediatrix of All Grace” was the title given the Madonna during that appearance and the exuding statue is a replica of one at the site.

The archbishop, in his official pastoral letter, said that “the events and apparition of 1948 also known as the Marian phenomenon in Lipa and its aftermath do exhibit supernatural character and is worthy of belief.” That came after decades of Church (including Vatican) rejection.

The question: do the word “events” and “phenomenon” (one plural, one singular) include the second most prominent phenomenon at Lipa: the alleged and widespread falling from the sky of rose petals with holy images on them?

Soon after the apparition to Teresita Castillo, a Carmelite nun, began, the entire convent, then the city, then the archipelago were caught up in the wonder. Heaven’s own calling card. Hundreds and thousands gathered near the convent. The town of Lipa was the scene of a horrible massacre during the war, and as if to erase those scars, Heaven granted the nation witness to beautiful and extraordinary events, including figures in the clouds and the rose petals that fell from the sky with likenesses of Jesus on them. Looking upward in astonishment, crowds of Filipinos claimed to see the petals materialize like manna out of thin air, and when the bishop visited the convent, intent on bringing a halt to the “hoax,” a shower of petals fell on him as he entered the convent.

There were tangible petals colored red, yellow, and orange, anxiously gathered as souvenirs; and when botanists analyzed them they concluded that the petals were of a variety known only to Russia, which is nearly two thousand miles to the north.

These petals have continued, at Lipa, periodically, through the decades.

What do you see? Could something so detailed be for real? Just religious medals pressed against petals for the effect? Little is left, it seems, to the imagination (unlike most such images). Remarkable indeed.

The mailbag: some restrictons on Medjugorje seers; more to come?

From the Desk of Sr. Emmanuel Maillard
September 14, 2015
Feast of the Exaltation of the Cross
Dear Children of Medjugorje, praised be Jesus and Mary! Recently, we noticed that a few changes have taken place in Medjugorje:  Marija no longer opens the Magnificat Center for her daily apparition. Ivan and Jakov still go to the Rotonda in the afternoon with Father Marinko to pray with the pilgrims, but without giving the messages. The Information
Center no longer releases the message received on the 2nd of the month by Mirjana as it did previously. This Summer Ivan did not invite the pilgrims to participate in the apparition at night on the mountain with his prayer group, etc.
If the restrictions increase, let us remain in peace: the Gospa has her plan and she will ensure itahtt happens. The visionaries know it and they are serene. These restrictions are probably local and prudent measures before Pope Francis’ announcement on Medjugorje. In addition, they also help pilgrims who are overly curious about the visionaries and attracted to the extraordinary to avoid being drawn away from the essential. For those who are far from God, and who need signs in order to encounter Jesus and follow Him, the “gifts” that Mary has offered us over the years have borne their fruit. Fortunately, God goes where He wants and will never be limited by man. His graces are not going to diminish; on the contrary, they constantly increase during times of adversity! Pope Francis has not given his word yet on Medjugorje, therefore no declaration, even from a “Vatican insider,” holds any authority. They are simply personal opinions. Beware of falling into the trap of agitation! The announcement will be given on the official Vatican websites. Let us pray in peace for Pope Francis who holds a grave responsibility, and for his entire entourage! Let us increase our prayers of thanksgiving and stay away from bitterness, or worse, criticism, which would sadden Our Lady and delay Her plan.
That is where she is waiting for us. Her Heart will triumph!”

From elsewhere on the internet have been rumors  — just that, unconfirmed, unsourced rumors —  that: 1. The CDF (Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith) has not recognized the apparitions as supernatural 2. Medjugorje will be recognized as a Place of Prayer 3. Medjugorje will not be recognized as a Marian Sanctuary 4. The seers of Medjugorje, all of them, have refused to disclose the so call “10 Secrets” to the CDF 5. The seers will be forbidden to divulge any new message with the risk of excommunication 6. Pope Francis will confirm the conclusion of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith (CFD); Announcement will be made September 26″
